Frequently Asked Questions about
When is Vacation Bible School at Munn Arena?
VBS
at Munn is August 3, 4, 5, and 2010
from 6:30
-
8:30 p.m.
What is
VBS
at Munn like?
In many ways, it’s a traditional
VBS
model: music, games, skits, Bible stories, scripture memorization,
snacks and crafts. The addition is skating each night.
Is there a theme?
The penguin logo says it all!
VBS
at Munn is about how to live a cool life
–
the life God calls us to live. Fo
llow the
penguins as they teach kids to follow God, on His path, in His ways. This year, three aspects of ‘cool livin’ ‘ will be emph
asized:
being truthful, being thankful, and resisting temptation. Each night’s lesson is based on a relevant Bible story
, shared in
developmentally appropriate ways
,
so that kids can immediately apply the learning to their young lives. Children will learn how God
wants us to live, why, and the ways in which He will help them “walk in the way”.
Why Munn, and not at Universi
ty Baptist Church?
The Munn Ice Arena on the campus of Michigan State University offers a
number of unique advantages as a vacation Bible school venue: first, it’s a non
-
threatening, neutral environment for families and
children for
who
‘church’ is unf
amiliar or uncomfortable. Second, it provides the space to allow
VBS
to grow as big as God chooses!
Finally, it provides a great recreation venue.
Is there a cost for skating?
No. The cost of skate rental is part of
VBS
. Children may skate nightly
from 8:00
-
8:30 p.m.
Our VBS is
scheduled to coincide with opening skating time at Munn.
Who’s the target audience?
“Cool Livin’” is designed for children ages 3
–
grade 6. We will schedule some activities for middle
school students who want to attend,
but this is primarily targeted at the pre
-
school
–
elementary grade level.
What about involvement by other churches?
We’re especially interested in sharing with other churches! The current congregation
of University Baptist Church is primarily adults, so
we’re actively encouraging participation by all other churches. We are delighted
to have you! There is also some room for helpers from other churches. For information about possible volunteer opportunitie
s,

meone will take the names of children, the grade they’ll
enter in fall, 2010, and a mailing address.
Why a mailing address?
Pre
-
registered children will get “count
-
down” reminders periodically, with small prizes to remind them of
the upcoming event and it
s theme.
How do we get to Munn Arena?
See the map
link
from the University Baptist Church webpage at
www.ubcel.org
. There is plenty of
parking around
the arena, and after 6:00, parking is open to the public.
How about parents? Are they welcome, too?
For parents who want to stay, we’ll have a special area set
aside
where he or she can
relax, have a cup of coffee, and enjoy the company of other parents.
Parents are more than welcome to enjoy the skating, too!
