Alex Pickens III Senior Pastor Rev. Alex Pickens III is a graduate of Howard University . While studying international management in Washington DC, Rev. Pickens served as an Assistant in the Historic Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel, led Bible studies with both the Baptist and United Methodist Student Unions and served on an ecumenical development team to Africa University in Zimbabwe. Upon graduation from the School of Business, he began a three and one half year commitment to the US Peace Corps. While in the US Peace Corps , Rev. Pickens worked for 2 years in a rural village as a preventive health educator. He spent a 3^rd year of service as the Director of Development for Junior Achievement International before earning a Master of Health Science in Finance and Management . While in graduate school he courted the former Naudia Bryan. The couple married in October 2001. Together they have two children. Catherine Ruby was born nine months before her father received his Master of Divinity. Christian Ethan was born five months before his mother received her Doctor of Medicine. Rev. Pickens has served as the Senior Pastor of University Baptist Church since March 1, 2009. Nichole and Ben Brandt Resident Student Intern (Ben) Ben Brandt has been selected as University Baptist Church’s 2011 Resident Student Intern. Ben was selected because the successful candidate must profess and exhibit a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord. Belief in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Holy Trinity and Christian maturity are required. Experience in evangelism, discipleship and Bible study is desired. The intern may be either an undergraduate or graduate student and be single (living alone) or married. Ben met or exceeded all of these requirements. The start of the 2010-2011 school year at Michigan State University finds University Baptist Church doing a new thing in ministry. Ben has already begun reaching out to students through the coordination of weekly and monthly events in and around the East Lansing area.
