August 20. Who can you invite to join the fun? There will be pick-up soccer and Ultimate Frisbee games as well

We hope to stay until dark each time. Come and fellowship with your UBC family and neighbors!
Needed: Canopy for INDOOR use at VBS -- must be stable without stakes. If you have one that can be

In worship this Sunday, July 25, Pastor will speak on “Benefiting Others”.
It is based on scripture from Psalm 100.
The Psalmist calls us to serve the Lord with gladness and to come before His presence with singing. Often the
Lord’s presence includes an organ, piano, comfortable seats and beautifully colored windows. Sometimes
however, the Lord is also found in places of need.
Why else would we be called to serve the One to whom we render no benefit? While God does not need our
volunteer efforts, our neighbors do. When we serve as unto the Lord, we are able to do what the Psalm
commands: serve the Lord with gladness.
All Hands Needed at the Blue House! There is much to be done and time is getting short.
The remaining construction and cleaning must be finished by July 31 in order for the ministry to be set up in time
for students returning to MSU. Please see Roy Cunningham for a schedule of specific tasks with dates and times.
Plan to join us for a UBC group outing to the Lugnuts game on Sunday, August 15. The game starts at 2 PM,
kids eat free and there is a Christian Family concert after the game. Tickets will be $10 each with no discount for
children (under age two free). A lunch of hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided by UBC at the church before
the game. A sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board.
Important VBS Meeting Monday, August 2, 7:00 p.m. at the church. -- This is our last opportunity before VBS
to make sure we are prepared for the children we’ll minister to on August 3, 4 and 5. Please consider coming,
even if you haven’t previously volunteered.
There is work for all!
Please pray for these VBS volunteers, and ask one of them what you can do to help!

return items to UBC. Individuals must be able to lift and carry furniture (up to 40 pounds), and have a valid
driver’s license. Pay rate is $10 per hour worked.
WHAT DO YOU THINK? Should we try to organize a “van run” to various neighborhoods/apartment
complexes for VBS? This would require heavy posting of information in these areas. If you have reason to
believe there is a geographic area where this might be appropriate and you are willing to help organize a poster-
campaign, please let June Youatt know at youatt@msu.edu.
Do you have technology skills? Is the Lord calling you to use those skills for the spiritual growth of our church?
Please seek God’s direction about filling the position of Tech Leader for the “Walk to Bethlehem 2010”. You
would need to work with the UBC web site and a kiosk at UBC, using technology to promote and record the
progress of our walk. If you can help with this in any way, please contact “Walk to Bethlehem 2010” chairman
Rick McNeil, at 517-881-8006 or mcneilr@msu.edu or Pastor Alex at alexpickens@hotmail.com.

International Ministries Update
Annie and Jeff Dieselberg serve in Bangkok, Thailand, a bustling metropolis of more than 10 million people.
Annie and Jeff both serve at NightLight Foundation and NightLight Design Co. Ltd. NightLight is an international
organization committed to addressing the complex issues surrounding trafficking and prostitution by catalyzing
individual and community transformation. NightLight's vision is to offer intervention to sexually exploited women
and children, to enable them to discover their dignity, and to provide a program of holistic transformation,
empowering them to live and work in their community
Annie writes: Thank you so much for your continual prayers and words of encouragement. It has been a trying
season but we have felt God's presence and have been empowered by your prayers. The political situation has
settled for the general public. While the battle continues in parliament and there is still deep division in the
country, life has returned to a busy pace. It was encouraging after the burning, to see many groups join together in
a day of clean up for Bangkok. We pray for more of this spirit of reconciliation and collaboration for a peaceful
resolution.
The streets of Bangkok are much quieter as many tourists have canceled their trips. This has had a significant
impact on Thailand's economy, including the bars where we do ministry. NightLight has also been impacted
through the cancellation of visitors. We usually average 600 visitors a year which helps to bring in jewelry sales
and increase awareness of the needs.
With the loss of legitimate jobs in Thailand, more women are turning to the bars as a possible source of income. At
the same time, there has been a decrease of male clientele at these establishments. With the number of women in
the bars increasing, and the number of customers decreasing, I believe the time is right to reach these women with
hope. We need your support and prayers more than ever for the next phase of this journey.
Pray for Annie and Jeff and the workers and volunteers at NightLight as they reach out to women and seek
to bring them hope and new life in Christ.
That’s what’s happening – Hope to see you on Sunday!
